My pals at TAK! have been working on a new blog system for the site. So things are going to be a wee bit more organised here with lots more to explore! Should be up by the end of May, so won't be posting on here until it's up. Will be posting on the new system in the meantime so there will be some reading to catch up on for you folk!
Simple and lovely idea! Have a listen to mine here....

Been getting more into my now favourite group The Whitest Boy Alive over the last few days. I've now decided it crucial I get their album and one day take shots of them and if I can pull it off make a music video for the chaps. Loving the videos that have already been made. Ages back I posted the super good animation for Golden Cage by Mr Geoff McFetridge, find that and more joyful stuff... plus their live version of Technotronic classic 'Pump Up The Jam'! YES!!

That's right folks world pinhole day is nearly upon us! If you want to go back to the roots of photography and the beautiful basics of image making, then get yourself hooked up with a pinhole camera and some pinhole knowledge... Then get shooting! As in a few days, on April 27th it will be World Pinhole Day! Check www.pinholeday.org for more.... But the basic gist is shoot some pinhole action on the 27th then get your film processed and submit it back to the site afterwards for inclusion in the gallery! The site looks a bit wack but some of the photography is awesome! Lomography.com are also pushing World Pinhole Day and I guess will be showcasing pics from the day on their site in one form or another... They also have some tasty large format pinhole cameras in their shop! So wait no longer! Up the Pinhole's!
I'm currently sat in a hotel room in Belfast, sorting through pictures I took
at the first SoCo Social in Ireland. It was a fun night with Henry Relph and James Lavelle (below) DJing. The Belfast crowd were all reall friendly and it was actually quite a fun night... However it's 4am right now... I'm nearly finished.. just uploading the files to my server for the client. Sadly not time for sleep as I have a flight back to UK to catch in just a couple of hours!

Carrying on from the last post, I'm continuing the nostalgia of the classic 70's BBC music series 'The Old Grey Whistle Test. This time we're treated to a Thin Lizzy track... it rocks out at the end.
This animation was made the same year I was born! It's the incredibly psychedelic music video for Frank Zappa's 'City of Tiny Lites'. I haven't seen it for ages and just came across it on a You Tube archive of the 'Old Grey Whistle Test', an old music series and prelude to the likes of Top of the Pops etc.. Anyway this drug induced late 70's stop frame clay animation is well worth seeing and just wanted to share it... So Enjoy!
Over the next three nights there are a series of talks taking place in Birmingham, discussing and debating the importance of arts & culture within the region.
As part of it there is an Art of Ideas folder that people will be given, it contains a special limited edition A2 Art Update map of the area and on the reverse there will be different portraits of Birmingham based artists.

For the past six weeks I've been seeking out and shooting video footage
with Ruth Claxton, an artist who creates these incredible and intense sculptures made of steel filled with mirrored and coloured glass, combined with porcelain figurines which Ruth makes bizarre and compelling interventions upon. The combination is the creation of a landscape and community that is somewhat fantastical, overwhelming and seductive.

I'm cryptic on purpose as I was making a documentary about Ruth's new show 'Lands End' for the Ikon Gallery. You can watch the doc now on the Ikon site or even better go to the Ikon in person and see the work in reality, then pop into the resource room to see the video and get an understanding of how much work went into the making and installation of 'Lands End'. The show runs from now till 18th May.

A few posts back I mentioned the Arts & Business project Visual that I'm featured on. It's been getting more press of late due to the launch of the new site and also from a couple of exhibitions currently running in London and Birmingham. I've got a lot of my New Orleans work on there and there's some great photography from the likes of Stuart Whipps, David Rowan, Daniel Bosworth and Stuart Mills. Plus one my favourite artist is a chap called Ross Jones, who draws incredibly dark and bleak scenes in a minimal way on huge canvases. Recommend you take another look at the site and the various press clippings attached here, including a shot of me in cheese mode snapped at one of the launches with talented artist Kate Pemberton...
I remember playing this tune when I was younger... Awesome! If I ever have kids they're gonna have to start up an Iron Maiden cover band! Good cover of 'The Trooper' by these little rippers... Ace!

Let me introduce you to my new favourite photographers! This genius duo have an eye for the design of life. Their books look incredible, check out the Plastic Bottles series and also Farmer Kids in the editorial section. These two will become photography legends I am sure of that.... Go see their work now! Thanks to my pal Kath from Auckland for putting me on to them.

A couple of days ago I was commissioned to take shots of a Street Pianos, a live art concept running as part of this years Fierce Festival. The general gist is old retro pianos left out in public spaces for people to play and interact with. It's a nice idea and in a way seems to commemorate the loss of old Piano shops, such as the infamous 'Sparky's' once located in the heart of Digbeth. Anyway a couple of my shots made it onto the Guardian site so take a look...

Today marks the launch and re-brand of a project I've been involved in for sometime now - 'VISUAL' is a project aimed at brining contemporary artwork into business environments and to those who work within these businesses. The work exists on a gallery website which is open to everyone to browse however the businesses have full access to the site, allowing them to actually purchase work and find out more on individual artists etc.. The site launches today! So check it out and if you work for a large company that would be interested in having access to such work or even commissioning artists to make work for their spaces then get in touch with the Visual team via the site. Their is a special exhibition opening tonight at the newly refurbished Baskerville House in the very centre of Birmingham. I'll post some images from that later..

Here we go.. a pic of some folks at the show looking at my shot of DJ Chicken in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans...

3 days and 2 nights of traveling got me back from Greece to Birmingham late yesterday afternoon. Recovering from the journey right now... it was a great experience traveling all that way on coach for 6hrs through Greece and the snowy mountains, then onto a 15hr ferry trip taking us from Greece to Italy. From the port of Ancona in Italy we headed up to Bologna, where I got to eat some authentic Bolognese! Next we took an overnight train to Paris which took a further 12 hrs before hopping onto the Eurostar back to the UK. From all that traveling our carbon foot print is reduced to a tenth of the emissions caused by flying. Good stuff!
Our adventure is nearly over... tonight is our last night in Thessaloniki! We've been doing lots of shooting in hotels around the area, making some quite abstract experimentations and working up pieces that fit within the narrative for the 'Hotel' performance piece. Here are a few examples of what we've been up to...
